Project Overview
What:
A 10-song “radio” concept album that unfolds over 45 minutes on a hypothetical drive from Albuquerque to Santa Fe.
Rather than a linear progression of songs, the folk, country, and pop songs on this album (all original, and all recorded by different artists) will be interspersed with snippets of other songs, tuner static, New Mexico-specific commercials, public service announcements, and DJ commentary—as though one were on a drive in New Mexico listening to an analog radio.
Road Trippin’ through New Mexico will be an album that is both nostalgic and fresh. An album New Mexicans will be proud to call their own and people across the country will enjoy listening to.
When:
The drive will be set in October, the week of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.
Who:
The musicians featured on the album will be a mix of local and national artists. The advertisers featured in the radio commercials will all be local to New Mexico.
Why:
The songs are on the album to entertain, comfort, and inspire people. The commercials, public service announcements, and DJ commentary are on the album to increase people’s awareness and appreciation of New Mexico.
In part, this album will be a love letter to New Mexico!
